Precious metals

Gold, silver and other precious metals, tracked at market price and folded into your net worth.

A coin bought five years ago, a bar acquired recently: gold and other precious metals often build up purchase after purchase, at a different price each time. Without tracking, it is hard to know what this reserve really represents in your net worth, or what it has returned.

Finvygo values your metals at market price, converted into your currency, and keeps track of each purchase separately. You see the gain on each lot and the share gold or silver holds in your overall allocation, alongside your other assets.

Why track your precious metals?

Gold and other precious metals are often chosen as a safe haven, a share of the allocation meant to hold up when other assets fall. You still need to know that share precisely: a bar or a few coins do not represent the same share of a net worth depending on what else you hold.

The price of gold or silver moves every day, and purchases are often made in several batches, at different prices. Without tracking, the real gain on each purchase gets lost, and the share of metals in your net worth stays a rough guess rather than an up-to-date number.

How Finvygo values gold, silver and other metals

Each metal is declared by the gram or by the ounce, whichever you prefer, with its form (coin, bar, other) and its price tracked automatically, converted into your reference currency. Your position's value updates without you ever having to check the price yourself.

The same metal bought several times, at different prices, breaks down into as many lots as purchases: each lot keeps its own cost basis, and its own unrealised gain shows up separately, alongside the overall gain on the position.

Frequently asked questions

Which precious metals can I track?

Gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and a catch-all other metal category for anything that does not fit those. Each metal is tracked by the gram or by the ounce, whichever you prefer.

Is the gold price updated automatically?

Yes. The price follows the market and converts automatically into your reference currency, with no action on your part. Your position's value therefore moves continuously.

Can I record several purchases at different prices?

Yes. Each purchase can be added as a separate lot, with its own date and its own price by the gram or by the ounce. The gain is calculated lot by lot, and overall for the whole position.

Are physical coins and bars supported?

Yes, in a declarative way: you enter the form (coin, bar, other), the weight and the price paid, just like any other precious metal purchase.
